"A Trip Down Memory Lane"

Episode 9 ・ The Station

Get Ready!

Part 1

Last time on

The Rewriters!

With Menti officially on their side,
the team set out to cross Far Far Fields –
until they ran into Headkeeper Lopi!

Luna

Giving Sol a dandelion, Lopi purposely
unlocked a difficult memory...

Luna

In the past, Sol made a mistake that led
both Sol and Menti to stop rewriting, scared
of future mistakes.

Luna

Remembering their past fears, Sol doubted
their identity as a Rewriter...nearly giving
up, as Lopi wanted.

Luna

However, thanks to the support of Sol’s
friends and a reminder of what they’ve
learned on the journey so far...

Luna

...Sol accepted their past self and
decided to keep rewriting!

Luna

Now, the Rewriters bravely head to face the Keepers...but little do they know, another challenge awaits them...

Luna

Our story continues...

Ok everyone, this is it – this bus station
can take us anywhere, including the Keepers’ headquarters.

Menti

Wow...I didn’t even know we had buses here?!

Menti

Yeah...the buses used to run more often, but with all the problems created by the Keepers, they’ve gone out of use.

Menti

Sounds like it’s time to bring them back,
then – come on, let’s go find our bus!

Sol

Right! Let’s be careful, though –
Lopi might have something in store for us...

Menti

...So you’re still trying to enter our HQ,
I see. You just don’t know when to give up,
do you?

Lopi

If giving up means accepting an unchanging
world without rewriting...then no, we won’t
give up.

Sol

You've trapped me, my friends –
everyone – in problems, hoping we wouldn't
try and solve them.

Sol

But we did try – and we’ll keep trying.

Sol

Fine. If that’s what you want...
then I have no choice but to stop you.

Lopi

Good thing the two of us already made
a plan for this. Mwahaha!

Lopi

Shrubs! To your stations!

Lopi

Destroy the WIN blocks of every problem,
every region – no one else shall rewrite
ever again!

Lopi

What?! No...you can’t do this!

Menti

But I can, Menti. Unlike you, I don’t play
nice – we will keep the order of this world,
by any means necessary.

Lopi

Wh-what should we do??
The other regions are in danger!!

Zorro

And if every WIN block is destroyed,
no one can grow their rewriting power!!

Olive

This doesn’t look good...but first, let’s
stay calm. Everyone, inhale...exhale...

Morel

Morel’s right...let’s think. The shrubs just left, so we can catch up to them somehow...

Sol

...We can use the buses to chase after them!
And as a former Keeper, I know how...

Menti

...With this!

Menti

Hmm...a bus pass?

Sol

Yep! With this, we can ride any bus and
travel to each region in a flash!

Menti

Alright, we can do this! Let’s go stop
those shrubs and protect the WIN blocks!

Sol

Hold on, Sol! Shouldn’t we make a plan first?

Olive

Oh yeah...good point! Menti,
which regions do we need to go to?

Sol

Hmmm, let’s see...

Menti

...a-ha! I still have the map
for the bus routes!

Menti

Here, we can start at the furthest
region and make our way back. So the
first stop would be...

Menti

Null Point? ...Oh! Those are the caves where
I first woke up, trapped by the Keepers...

Sol

...Sorry about that again, Sol. You must
have felt so confused waking up alone, with
no memories...

Sol

Yeah, I was a bit scared...but I was able
to escape thanks to Luna’s guidance!

Sol

She taught me that the first step to solving
a problem is to understand it.

Sol

Problem-Solving Steps

  1. Understand the problem
  • What is the goal?
  • What is blocking me from the goal?
  • What else is in this problem and what choices do I have?

There was a lot I didn’t understand
at first, like those new state blocks –
SINK, BOOM, and WEAK.

Sol

That’s when Luna taught me tinkering –
trying something new, then pausing to notice
and understand what happened.

Sol

So I tried a lot of different things:
touching objects, pushing objects together, making and breaking rules.

Sol

By tinkering, I was able to figure things
out on my own – and I escaped those caves
just in time!

Sol

Phew, I’m so glad you did!
What’s the next stop after the caves?

Zorro

The next stop should be...Mount Fureeze.
That’s where I met you, Zorro!

Sol

Oh yeah!! I had been stuck for a while...
but then you helped me get home!

Zorro

Yep, and we solved a bunch of problems
with HOT and MELT on the way there!

Sol

>

We learned how those blocks work by
tinkering – and by asking questions to
our friend Piney!

Sol

Right, we learned that HOT and MELT
work as a pair! For example...

Zorro

After Sol writes ICE IS HOT,
which object(s) will be destroyed?

Let's think before seeing the poll choices!

Poll Time!

Poll Open!

Completed!

1

SPIKE

2

SNOWBEAR

3

BOTH

After Sol writes ICE IS HOT,
which object(s) will be destroyed?

Poll Closed!

After Sol writes ICE IS HOT,
which object(s) will be destroyed?

1

SPIKE

2

SNOWBEAR

3

BOTH

HOT objects destroy MELT objects when
they touch, so only the spike is destroyed.
The snowbear isn’t MELT, so it’s fine!

Zorro

Got it, thanks Zorro! After the mountains,
our next stop should be...

Sol

Morel

Ah, next is our hometown – Mush Marsh!

Yep! That’s where we met you, Morel –
and helped you find Enoki!

Sol

That brings back memories...I remember during our search, Morel taught us about reducing!

Zorro

We had a lot of choices in those problems,
so we reduced them by reading the rules and focusing on the most important ones.

Zorro

Indeed. In particular, reading the rules
for the objects blocking us was often useful.

Morel

Yeah, that came in handy since we
learned about another pair of blocks
there – OPEN and SHUT!

Sol

Yes. Though they are both pairs,
OPEN and SHUT work a bit differently from
HOT and MELT. For example...

Morel

If Sol pushes the frog into the fly,
which object(s) will disappear?

Let's think before seeing the poll choices!

Poll Time!

Poll Open!

Completed!

1

FROG

2

FLY

3

BOTH

If Sol pushes the frog into the fly,
which object(s) will disappear?

Poll Closed!

1

FROG

2

FLY

3

BOTH

If Sol pushes the frog into the fly,
which object(s) will disappear?

Unlike HOT and MELT, when an OPEN object
touches a SHUT object, both objects disappear.

Morel

Right! When HOT and MELT objects touch,
only the MELT objects disappear.

Sol

Okay, once we’re done at Mush Marsh,
the next place will be...

Sol

The underwater city of Sea Quench!
That’s my time to shine~

Olive

It sure is! I remember I got separated
from the group here, but thankfully that led
us to meeting Olive!

Sol

Yes...we were a bit panicked at first,
rushing to find you, Sol...

Morel

Zorro

And when we had to solve a problem, we all
had different ideas on where to start...

Olive

Yup! But Morel and Zorro convinced me
to slow down and try the next step of
problem-solving: planning a solution!

Problem-Solving Steps

  • What steps should I take to get closer to the goal?
  • What order should I do these steps in?

 2. Plan a solution

Olive

We saw from our first attempts that trying things in any random order wasn’t working...

Olive

That’s how we learned about sequencing –
by planning our steps in the correct order,
we reached the WIN much faster!

Olive

...And that’s how we found our way
back to you, Sol!

That was a huge relief!
Thanks again, everyone.

Sol

Alright, after the ocean,
the next stop should be...

Sol

The beach, Crabby Sands! That’s where
we finally caught up to you, Menti.

Sol

Heh, that’s right...even with my little transformation trick, you still found me.

Menti

Seeing you turn into a shrub actually
helped us learn how to transform objects, so...thanks!

Sol

Oh, that’s right! In one of the problems,
Sol and I transformed a bubble into a
beach ball by writing...

Olive

Wait, what was the right order again??
Hold on, I got this...

Olive

Which rule would transform
the bubble into a beach ball?

Let's think before seeing the poll choices!

Poll Time!

Which rule would transform
the bubble into a beach ball?

Poll Open!

Completed!

1

BUBBLE IS BALL

2

BALL IS BUBBLE

Which rule would transform
the bubble into a beach ball?

Poll Closed!

1

BUBBLE IS BALL

2

BALL IS BUBBLE

I remember now – the first object
transforms into the second object. So it
must be BUBBLE IS BALL!

Olive

That’s right!
Finally, our last stop will be...

Sol

The town of Willowbrook –
where you officially joined us, Menti!

Sol

Yep. You know, I really thought I’d win
that duel since I already knew how the GO
and SAFE blocks worked...

Menti

But you won easily! Did you all have
some sort of secret strategy??

Menti

Hmm...it’s not really a secret, but we
learned a lot by reflecting on our solutions when they didn’t work.

Sol

Problem-Solving Steps

 3. Try the solution

 4. Reflect on the solution

  • What happened and why didn’t our plan work?
  • How could we revise our plan?

Yes...by reflecting, we figured out why
a plan didn’t work and how we could improve
our next plan.

Morel

A lot of times, we missed something in
our understanding of the problem – so we
had to go back to step 1!

Zorro

I see...didn’t you ever feel
frustrated, starting over like that?

Menti

Oh, I did for sure! But like we
always say, making mistakes is normal –
it’s how we learn!

Olive

Indeed. Problems usually aren’t solved
on the first try, after all...

Morel

But if we keep trying, we’ll figure it
out eventually! We can go through our 4 steps
as many times as we need.

Sol

Problem-Solving Steps

  1. Understand the problem
  2. Plan a solution
  3. Try the solution
  4. Reflect on the solution

Looks like our bus route is fully
planned out...heh, you’ve all had quite
the adventure, haven’t you?

Menti

Definitely...
I’m glad I met you all along the way.

Sol

Is everyone ready to go?

Sol

goo!

Enoki

I’ll take that as a yes!
Come on everyone, let’s stop those shrubs!

Sol

Keep Going!

Part 3

Sol

Whew, that was a journey! But those shrubs
were no match for us, were they?

Y-you’re back already?! Where are my shrubs??

Lopi

S-sorry Headkeeper Lopi...
they were too powerful...

Shrubs

Ugh. Leave my sight at once!

Lopi

EEP! Y-yes, of course!

Shrubs

Sigh...it seems we must
take matters into our own hands.

Lopi

“We”...? Wait, don’t tell me...

Menti

You should know best, Menti – that us Headkeepers always fight as a duo.

Lopi

Lino, come here!

Lopi

So...the time has finally come.

Lino

Uhh, Menti? Who’s this?

Sol

That’s Lino, the other Headkeeper...
oof, I get a bad feeling whenever these
two are together...

Menti

Bwahaha! Good to see you too, Menti...

Lino

And you must be Sol...I’ve heard
much about you and your friends.

Lino

The fact that you traveled your way here, against all odds...it’s impressive,
I must admit.

Lino

But if you insist on continuing to our headquarters...that will be the end of
your little adventure.

Lino

Yes, it will be the end...

Sol

Because my friends and I will stop you,
once and for all!

Sol

Interesting...very interesting.

Lino

Well, if a showdown is what you want...
a showdown is what you’ll get.

Lino

Lopi, let’s head back to our HQ
to make preparations.

Lino

And to you, the Rewriters...
we’ll be waiting.

Lino

Geez...those two are really
stuck in their ways, aren’t they?

Olive

Honestly...I’m still a bit
scared to face them...

Zorro

Morel

That’s understandable, Zorro...
it will be our final battle, of sorts.

Yeah...but we’re in this together, right?

Sol

Right! Is there anything we
should do to prepare for this?

Menti

What advice would you give your
fellow Rewriters for the final showdown?

Let's Discuss:

...Thanks everyone.
I feel a little less scared now.

Zorro

I’m glad! Does everyone feel ready to go?

Sol

I think so! Here, Sol...

Menti

You can take the bus pass for now.
Will you lead the way?

Menti

Sure, I...

Sol

...Wait, hold on. I didn’t notice it before,
but this bus pass is giving me that feeling...

Sol (Thinking)

Examining the bus pass, Sol hears a warm voice...

Where do you want to go today, Sol?
Somewhere new?...You really are adventurous,
my child...the world is yours to explore.

???

...Woah! I thought I knew everything by now...but there was one final memory.

Sol (Thinking)

I realize who that voice is now...they’ve
been watching over me this whole time.

Sol (Thinking)

You’re smiling, Sol...
did you remember something good?

Menti

Yeah, I did...but
I’ll tell you when this is all over!

Sol

Wait, what- hey, Sol??

Menti

Ahaha, I’ve never seen Sol
this excited! Wait for us, Sol~

Olive

To the Keepers’ HQ, everyone –
we can do this!!

Sol

Until
next
time...
