"Where am I
and what is happening?"

Episode 1 ・ Dream Space

Get Ready!

Part 1

Where have all the Rewriters gone?

Luna

When I look upon this world...

Luna

...everyone seems to be
stuck in place,
unchanging.

Luna

Luna

Many can read the rules of this world,
but they cannot change them.

...or so they've been led to believe.

Luna

Are they afraid to try?
To make a mistake?
To fail?

Luna

Progress will never be made that way.

Luna

This world is in need of Rewriters...

Luna

...those brave enough to take on challenges, make mistakes, and change the rules.

Luna

Luna

Change the world.

Luna

But I haven't sensed that spark of
bravery in ages...

Luna

...Oh?

Luna

What's this feeling?

This power...could it be?

Luna

Sol

Where...am I?

Luna

Excuse me...is your name Sol, by any chance?

Sol

...Yes, but how did you know? Who are you?

I had a feeling. You may not know me yet,
but you can call me Luna.

Luna

Luna...can you tell me what’s happening?
I can’t remember anything before this...

Sol

Sol...I will act as your guide, for now.
You may feel lost, but that’s okay.

Luna

Everything will make sense in time.
Now, let us begin.

Part 3

Sol

Woah, this world has so many...things!

Luna

Ah, you can call them objects.

For example, this bubble is an object.
Do you notice any other objects around here?

Luna

Other objects? Hmm...I see a sandcastle,
a heart, and even a crab!

Sol

Yes, those are all examples of objects.

Luna

Sol

Oh! There’s also these white and black
squares. Are these objects?

No, those are different – we call them
blocks. Blocks are used to write rules.

Luna

Rules?

Sol

Yes. In this world, objects behave
according to rules.

Luna

I'll show you what I mean.

Luna

Try pushing the bubble.

Luna

Okay...I’m pretty sure I can push a bubble?
Let me try.

Sol

Huh? I tried pushing it, but I walked right through it...

Sol

Weird. Did I forget how to push
objects or something?

Sol

Not quite, Sol.
Let’s pause and think for a moment.

Luna

Sometimes, we learn most when things
don’t work the way we expect them to.

Luna

Why couldn't Sol push the bubble?

Why couldn't Sol push the bubble?

There is no rule that says
the bubble can be pushed

Sol got trapped in the bubble

Bubbles always pop when pushed

Sol can only push crabs

Sol, do you see any rules here that say
the bubble can be pushed?

Luna

No, I don't see any rules for
the bubble here.

Sol

Indeed. Allow me to demonstrate.

Luna

Try pushing the bubble now.

Luna

I don't know if it'll work, but...here goes.

Sol

It worked! How did you do that?!

Sol

I wrote a rule using blocks.

Luna

The rule says: BUBBLE IS PUSH.
This means you can push the bubble object.

Luna

Hmm...so the first block
is referring to the bubble?

Sol

Yes. It's called an object block.

Luna

Object blocks are always white and hold a picture of the object they represent.

Luna

So white blocks represent objects, got it.

Sol

What do the black blocks do?

Sol

Luna

They represent how objects behave.
They are called state blocks.

Oh! That's why I can push the bubble.

Sol

What about the middle block?

Sol

Luna

That is called a connector block because it
connects object blocks and state blocks.

Sol

So we can write rules by connecting
object blocks to state blocks using
a connector block.

Luna

That is correct.

Luna

You’ll want to make sure those blocks
are in the right order, too. Otherwise,
the rule won’t work.

Luna

For example, PUSH IS BUBBLE
won't do anything.

See how there’s no yellow box here?
If you see a yellow box highlighting a rule, then that rule is written correctly.

Luna

You can see it on the other two rules here:
SOL IS YOU and HEART IS WIN.

Luna

I see! Hmm, I wonder what
HEART IS WIN means...

Sol

The WIN block will be very helpful
to you, Sol. Try moving onto the heart object and see what happens.

Luna

Oh! I feel a bit stronger now...
like I can keep moving forward.

Sol

Indeed. This is how you can grow your
rewriting power, Sol – by touching the object that has the WIN state.

Luna

Sol

My rewriting power? What do you mean?

Luna

As a Rewriter, you can solve problems
in this world by changing the rules.

Luna

The more you practice that,
the stronger you’ll become.

Okay...so I should try to touch as many
of these hearts as I can, right?

Sol

Not exactly. Remember, this world’s rules
can change. In one place, the WIN object
may be a heart...

Luna

Luna

But in another place, the WIN object could
be a sandcastle, a bubble, or even a crab.

Sol

So the rules can change from one problem
to the next? I’m worried I might get
confused as I keep going.

Luna

It’s normal to get confused or stuck.
Remember that you can try as many times as
you need. There is no rush to WIN.

Luna

Also, I may not always be there to help
you, so...here, take this. I call it
the Inspector.

Luna

If you need help understanding a problem,
you can use the Inspector to focus on rules, objects, and state blocks.

Sol

Thank you, Luna.
I’ll keep that in mind as I try on my own.

Keep Going!

Part 5

Sol

...I think I understand what’s happening.
Luna, this is a dream...right?

I woke up for a second just now, in a
dark cave...and someone else was there –
a mysterious knight.

Sol

They ran away before I could say
anything...just who was that?

Sol

...Hmm. I believe you will find some
answers back in the real world.

Luna

Actually...there may be an object here
that will help you wake up again – an object that contains a memory.

Luna

We might find it if you continue growing
your rewriting power. Let’s see...

Luna

Ah, here we go. Sol, let’s see what
you’ve learned – try reaching the WIN
object on your own.

Luna

I’m nervous...but I’ll try! I should
probably look at the rules first, right?

Sol

That’s a good first step. Let’s examine the
blocks in each rule – do you remember what the white blocks with the pictures are called?

Luna

The pictures represent objects, so...they’re called object blocks. There’s one for myself,
the CRAB, the SANDCASTLE, and the BUBBLE.

Sol

Luna

That’s right! Now, do you remember what
the black blocks are called?

Those are state blocks, they describe how
objects behave. The state blocks here are YOU, STOP, PUSH, and WIN.

Sol

Luna

Indeed. Now that you’ve examined the rules,
let me ask you this...

Would you be able to push the crabs here? Why or why not?

Let's Discuss! (2 mins)

Sol

Hmm...no, I won’t be able to push the crabs.

Luna

That’s correct.
Can you explain how you know that?

Sol

There’s only four rules here –
first, SOL IS YOU.

Sol

Then CRAB IS STOP.

Sol

Next, SANDCASTLE IS PUSH.

Sol

Finally, BUBBLE IS WIN.

Sol

None of those say CRAB IS PUSH, so I
won’t be able to push the crabs.

Sol

I can push the sandcastles though, so that
will let me reach the bubble and WIN!

Luna

You’ve done well, Sol. I believe you’re
ready to return to the real world...
take a look at what just appeared.

Sol

A teddy bear...?
Somehow, it feels familiar...

Sol

...Hm? I have a strange feeling...like I’m
about to remember something...

Holding the teddy bear, Sol hears a distant voice...

???

Oh my, Sol’s a Rewriter?! That’s rare
these days...they’ll go on to do great
things for sure...

Sol

...Woah! What was that? A memory??

Sol

Whoever that was, they were talking
about me...does this mean I’ve always
been a Rewriter?

Sol

Luna, do you know-

Sol

Wait, Luna? ...Where are you?

Sol

...Uh oh, I feel dizzy...
is it happening again? I’m...

Sol

...Waking up.

Until next time...
