"Finders, Keepers"
Episode 8 ・ Far Far Fields

Get Ready!
Part 1

Last time on
The Rewriters!

After following Menti into the sunny town
of Willowbrook, Sol and friends challenged
the knight to a rewriting duel!
Luna

Thanks to their teamwork, the Rewriters
won easily against the lone knight.
Luna

Picking up Menti’s toy horse,
Sol had a big realization...
Luna

The childhood friend that Sol heard in their memories...that was Menti!
Luna

Luna

Unmasking, Menti confessed that she joined the Keepers in hopes of protecting Sol – something she now regrets.

Luna

With Sol's encouragement, Menti decided
to fix her mistake — she joined the team in their quest to spread rewriting!

The Rewriters continue on their journey...
but someone is already waiting for them...
Luna

Our story continues...

To take down the Keepers, we’ll need to
travel to their headquarters. We can get
there using the station, but...
Menti

We'll have to cross Far Far Fields —
that's her territory.
Menti

"Her"...?
Sol

Headkeeper Lopi — she’s one of
the two leaders of the Keepers.
Menti

If possible, I'd like to avoid her...
Menti

Too late, Menti.
???

L-Lopi?!
Menti

Lopi

Ugh...first the weeds in my garden,
now this? Things are getting out of control...and I won’t have it.

Menti, my shrubs told me of your betrayal.
Have you really joined their side?
Lopi

I...yes, I have.
Menti

...Unbelievable. This is the thanks I get?
Lopi

Um, Lopi? Menti’s just doing what she
thinks is right — that's her own decision.
Sol

Ah...Sol, it’s been a while.
I hardly recognized you.
Lopi

...What do you mean? You know me...?
Sol

Mwehehe...come here and you'll see.
Lopi

W-wait, don't...!
Menti

That dandelion you’re holding...I know this feeling!
Sol

Reaching for the dandelion, Sol hears an arrogant voice...

How silly of you...playing around
with dangerous blocks.
Lopi (Memory)

But don’t worry – the Keepers will
keep you safe, forever. Doesn’t that
sound nice? Sol, Menti?
Lopi (Memory)

Th-that was...?!
Sol

I...I remember now. Menti...
this is all my fault, isn’t it?
Sol

Sol, no...!
Menti

It happened here, years ago...
I dragged Menti along for another rewriting adventure...
Sol

But as I rushed into the first
problem, I made a big mistake.
Sol

I broke the SOL IS YOU rule...
and I was no longer in control of myself.
Sol

...Yeah. I tried fixing it,
but I didn’t know what to do.
Menti

I felt like I was making things
worse by trying...and I got so scared,
I just...stopped.
Menti

And that’s how I found you two – stuck,
scared. Honestly, you were lucky the
Keepers knew how to handle it.
Lopi

After that, both of you stopped
rewriting – and who can blame you? You
saw how dangerous it can be!
Lopi

So the reason we stopped rewriting...
the reason Menti joined the Keepers...
it was because of me. My mistake.
Sol

And then I just...gave up? Is that the kind
of person I was...? Is that who I am?
Sol

No! That’s not true...!
Menti

But it is. And now that you’ve
remembered the truth of your past...
Lopi

Do you really want to fight us, Sol?
How about you all join us instead?
Lopi

...
Sol

Why don’t you think on it? I’ll be waiting
for your answer at the station...
Lopi

...Don’t listen to her, Sol!
You’re the one who said mistakes help us learn, right?
Menti

Yeah...but now that I remember how scared
I felt at that time, I...I don’t know.
Sol

But Sol...we're all Rewriters because
of you! So we won’t let you give up!
Zorro

Everyone's here for you.
Menti

So...let’s go solve some problems together. It might be hard, but we can do it.
Menti

If you want to quit or join the Keepers after this...I won’t like it. But I won’t stop you.
Menti

Everyone...I’m sorry.
I need some time to think.
Sol

But...I’ll at least go with you, for now.
Sol

...Okay. Here, follow me...
Menti

Here's the first problem...
Menti

Let's make sure we understand it first.
I'll start...
Menti

1. Understand the problem
- What do I notice and what could be useful?
-
What is the goal?
-
What is blocking me from the goal? Why?

Problem-Solving Steps
Our goal is to reach the heart
since HEART IS WIN.
Menti

But we're blocked by the water,
which is SINK AND DEFEAT.
Menti

I see a frog and a rule that says
FROG IS PUSH...but it looks crossed out
somehow. Weird.
Zorro

Hm...the SINK block is also crossed out
on the rule for the water.
Morel

Maybe it has something to do with
these rules: WATER IS NOT SINK and
FROG IS NOT PUSH!
Olive

I've heard the NOT block is powerful...
but I'm not sure how it works.
Menti

...Alright, here's the plan: I'll push
the frog into the water to clear a path.
We'll go from there.
Menti

Menti...I don't think that plan will work.
But what do I know? I've never seen the NOT block before...
Sol (Thinking)

I should let my friends handle it...
I'd probably just get in the way.
Sol (Thinking)

Explore!
Part 2

Think about
this question while you play...
In problem 1, the Rewriters plan to push the frog into the water. Why doesn't that plan work?
- The frog can't be pushed
- The water won't sink
- There aren't enough frogs
- All of the above

Time for a Video!

Let’s make sure volume is turned up and everyone can see before going to the next slide.

The plan didn't work...
I should've said something...
Sol (Thinking)

Maybe I'm not as brave as I thought...
maybe Lopi's right about me.
Sol (Thinking)

Sol, what are you thinking about over there? Come reflect on this plan with us!
Olive

A-Alright...
Sol

So, why didn't this plan work?
Zorro

There's a couple reasons — first, I couldn't even push the frog when I tried.
Menti

I think that's because of the
NOT block that we noticed earlier.
Menti

I tinkered a bit by breaking
the FROG IS NOT PUSH rule...
Menti

And when I tried pushing the frog again, it worked! But there was another problem...
Menti

The water didn't sink, yes? That must
be because WATER IS NOT SINK.
Morel

Yeah, I had the same thought.
So I went to go break that rule...
Menti

When I did, the water and frog both sank!
Menti

That confirmed it for me — the NOT block is used to cancel out rules. All you have to do is write a rule with NOT after IS.
Menti

Now that we understand that, we're left
with the last reason our plan didn't work...
Menti

...The one frog isn't enough, right?
There's still more water blocking us...
Sol

Sol...! Yes, exactly.
Menti

How can we revise our plan to fix that, though...? There's nothing else here...
Sol

Heh...don't say nothing, Sol.
There is one thing we can use...
Menti

The SINK block itself!
Menti

...What? You can use a block to
destroy a SINK object?
Sol

Yep! As long as we don't need the
block to make a rule, it's fine!
Menti

Here, I'll show you...
Menti

...It worked! That's...kinda cool.
Sol

Menti

Right? Now we can tackle the
rest of the problem!

Yes, let's make a plan. How can we break
the rest of this problem down?
Morel

Problem-Solving Steps

2. Plan a solution
- How can I break this problem into smaller steps?
-
What order should I do these steps in?

Hmm...let's look at what steps we can
take in each section of the problem.
Menti

On the right, we need to get past
this water to reach the heart.
Menti

There's an incomplete rule above us,
but we're blocked by water there, too...
Zorro

There's another incomplete rule below us,
and it's not blocked by anything! Could we
use that in our plan somehow?
Olive

Hmm...any ideas, Sol?
Morel

Um...I have one idea.
I don’t know if it’s right though...
Sol

Tell us! Even if it’s wrong,
we’ll learn something from it!
Olive

...O-okay. We could push the SAFE block
down so that I become SAFE – then I can
cross the water without any issues.
Sol

Sounds like a plan! Let's try it —
I’ll write SOL IS SAFE...
Menti

Waaaahhh!!! What happened?!
Sol (Frog)

I made another mistake, didn’t I...
oh no, this is just like that memory!!
Sol (Frog)

Sol, it's okay!!
We know better now...we can just undo!
Menti

Sol, it's okay!!
We know better now...we can just undo!
Menti

See? All good!
Menti

I...that was...
Sol

Sol? Are you alright??
Zorro

Ha...hahaha! That was a new one –
transforming into a frog!! Haha!
Sol

Whew, okay...that was a shock, but I think
it helped clear my mind. Let’s try
again – we definitely need a new plan!
Sol

Heh, you’re right about that.
Let’s reflect on this plan so we can figure
out how to improve it.
Menti

Problem-Solving Steps
4. Reflect on the solution
3. Try the solution
- Did the plan work? Why or why not?
-
How should I revise my plan if it didn't work?

The plan didn’t work since Sol turned into
a frog...that must be because of the FROG
block down there.
Morel

...You're right. When I pushed the SAFE
block down, it didn’t just make SOL IS SAFE. It made SOL IS SAFE AND FROG.
Menti

Now that we understand our mistake, we can revise our plan! Let's look at the problem again.
Zorro

Let's Discuss! (2 mins)
How can the Rewriters revise their plan
so Sol doesn’t turn into a frog?

Time for a Video!

Let’s make sure volume is turned up and everyone can see before going to the next slide.

Hmm...can we do something with the
incomplete rule above us? We noticed it,
but didn’t use it yet.
Olive

Let’s see...it says SOL IS NOT...
Sol

Oh! I have an idea!
Sol

Before writing SOL IS SAFE AND FROG,
we can write the rule SOL IS NOT FROG!
Sol

...I see! The NOT block can
be used to cancel out rules...
Menti

That means SOL IS NOT FROG would cancel
out SOL IS FROG – but it wouldn’t affect
SOL IS SAFE!
Menti

Yeah! But we’ll need to destroy the water here to write that rule.
Zorro

We could do what Menti showed us earlier –
use a block to sink the water!
Olive

True...let’s just make sure we don’t
sink a block we actually need.
Menti

Hm...we shouldn’t sink the FROG block then, because we need it to write SOL IS NOT FROG.
Morel

Let’s use the PUSH block to destroy the
water, then – we don’t need it anymore.
Sol

Sounds like we have our revised plan...
are you ready to try it, Sol?
Menti

...Yeah. I’m ready!
Sol

First, sink the water with the PUSH block...
Sol

Then write SOL IS NOT FROG...
Sol

And now that we have that rule,
I can write SOL IS SAFE AND FROG...
Menti

There! You’re SAFE, but not a frog!
Menti

So finally, I can cross the water!
I won't sink, but the water will!
Sol

Bravo! You did it, Sol!!
Olive

...Thanks to all of you.
Sol

We work best as a team...and you’re
an important part of that, Sol.
Morel

Agreed. So...do you want to keep going, Sol?
Menti

Everyone...I’ve made up my mind.
Sol

Let’s go see Lopi –
I have something to tell her.
Sol

Keep Going!
Part 4

Keep this in mind as you play...
If you can’t think of anything
else to try, go back to step 1: Understanding the problem!
After trying a solution,
reflect on it by asking yourself:
- Did the plan work?
Why or why not?
- How should I revise my plan if it didn’t work?

Check In!
Part 5

...We made it. Lopi is waiting for
us straight ahead. Are you ready, Sol?
Menti

...I’m ready. Let’s go!
Sol

There you are.
So, have you decided?
Lopi

I have. Lopi, my answer to you is...
Sol

I won’t join the Keepers.
Sol

My friends and I – the Rewriters –
won’t give up until we stop you!
Sol

Wh-what?! Don't you remember, Sol?
Your past self gave up already!
Lopi

Oh I remember, thanks to you...
and I admit, you made me doubt myself.
Sol

“I’ve been acting brave all this time...
but is that really me?” Thoughts like that
kept bringing me down...
Sol

But then I realized something, when I...
well, when I turned into a frog!
Sol

When you– what?
Lopi

Yep, I accidentally became a frog while
solving a problem! And it reminded me...
Sol

When I first woke up in the cave, and
Luna was helping me escape...I was scared
to try anything at first.
Sol

But once I tried, once I made my first
mistake – I realized it wasn’t so bad.
It was fun to try, actually!
Sol

Then I met Zorro, Morel and Enoki, Olive, Menti...we all made mistakes on the way here, but we learned a lot, too.
Sol

So everything we’ve done up until now...
it’s not meaningless just because I was different in the past.
Sol

Sure, I was scared of making mistakes before...but I’ve changed. And that’s good!
I like that I’ve changed.
Sol

I can decide who I am moving forward – not you.
Sol

And I decide to be a Rewriter! My friends
and I – together, we’ll bring change back
to this world.
Sol

...I see. How disappointing.
Lopi

Prepare yourselves, then. The Keepers will
be ready to stop you next time...for good.
Lopi

Sol...are you shaking?
Menti

Yeah...guess I was pretty scared, after all.
Sol

...But you did it.
That’s what makes you brave.
Menti

Yeah! That was so cool, Sol!
Zorro

Agreed – and I’m so relieved
you’re staying with us!
Olive

...I’m proud of you, Sol.
You’ve grown so much since we first met.
Morel

After accepting their past mistakes, Sol stood up
to Lopi and decided to keep rewriting!
Let's Discuss! (2 mins)
What's a mistake you've made that you learned from?

Let's keep going, everyone – the station is just up ahead!
Sol

Lead the way, Sol!
Menti

...So Luna is the one who helped Sol escape.
I don’t know how, but that’s what they said!
Lopi

How interesting...
I suppose we have no choice, then.
???

We’ll show those Rewriters...they’re not
the only ones who can work in a team.
???

Until next time...
