"A Trip Down Memory Lane"
Episode 9 ・ The Station

Get Ready!
Part 1

Last time on
The Rewriters!

With Menti on their side,
the team set out to cross Far Far Fields –
until they ran into Headkeeper Lopi!
Luna

Giving Sol a dandelion, Lopi purposely
unlocked a troubling memory...
Luna

In the past, Sol made a mistake that led
both Sol and Menti to stop rewriting, scared
of future mistakes.
Luna

Remembering their past fears, Sol doubted
their identity as a Rewriter...nearly giving
up, as Lopi wanted.
Luna

However, thanks to the support of Sol’s
friends and a reminder of what they’ve
learned on the journey so far...
Luna

...Sol accepted their past self and
decided to keep rewriting!
Luna

Now, the Rewriters bravely head to face the Keepers...but little do they know, another challenge awaits them...
Luna

Our story continues...

Time for a Video!

Let’s make sure volume is turned up and everyone can see before going to the next slide.

We're here! This bus station
can take us anywhere, including
the Keepers’ headquarters.
Menti

Perfect! Come on everyone,
let’s go find our bus!
Sol

Right! Let’s be careful, though –
Lopi might be up to something...
Menti

...I see you’re still trying to enter our HQ. You just don’t know when to give up, do you?
Lopi

If giving up means accepting a
world without rewriting...then no, we won’t
give up.
Sol

You trapped everyone in problems, hoping
we wouldn't try and solve them...
Sol

But we did try – and we’ll keep trying!
Sol

Fine. If that’s your decision...
then I have no choice but to stop you.
Lopi

Good thing we already have a plan for this. Mwehehe!
Lopi

Shrubs! To your stations!
Lopi

Destroy the WIN blocks of every problem,
in every region – no one will rewrite
ever again!
Lopi

What?! No...you can’t do this!
Menti

But I can, Menti. Unlike you, I don’t play
nice – we will keep the order of this world,
by any means necessary.
Lopi

Wh-what should we do??
The other regions are in danger!!
Zorro

If every WIN block is destroyed,
no one can grow their rewriting power!!
Olive

Hmm...let’s stay calm. The shrubs just left, so maybe we can catch up to them somehow...
Sol

...We can use the buses to chase after them!
And as a former Keeper, I know how...
Menti

...With this!
Menti

...A bus pass?
Morel

Yep! With this, we can ride any bus and
travel to each region in a flash!
Menti

Great! Let’s go stop
those shrubs right now-
Sol

Hold on, Sol! Shouldn’t we make a plan first?
Olive

Oh yeah...good point! Menti,
which regions do we need to go to?
Sol

Hmmm, let’s see...
Menti

...A-ha! I still have the map
for the bus routes!
Menti

Let's start at the furthest
region and make our way back. So the
first stop would be...
Menti

Null Point? ...Oh! That's where
I first woke up, trapped by the Keepers...
Sol

...Sorry about that again, Sol.
It must have been scary, waking up
there with no memories...
Menti

Yeah, I was pretty confused...but
luckily, Luna was there to guide me!
Sol

Sol

She taught me that the first step to
solving a problem is to understand it.

Problem-Solving Steps
1. Understand the problem
- What do I notice and what could be useful?
- What is the goal?
- What is blocking me from the goal? Why?
There was a lot I didn’t understand
at first, like the new state blocks I saw –
SINK, BOOM, and WEAK.
Sol

That’s when Luna taught me tinkering –
trying something new, then pausing to notice
and understand what happened.
Sol

So I tried lots of different things:
touching objects, pushing objects together, making and breaking rules.
Sol

By tinkering, I was able to figure things
out on my own – and I escaped those caves
just in time!
Sol

Phew, I’m so glad you did!
What’s the next stop after that?
Zorro

The next stop should be...Snowy Slopes.
That’s where I met you, Zorro!
Sol

Oh yeah!! I had been stuck in a problem for
a while...but you helped me get home!
Zorro

Yep! We solved the problems along the way
by making observations about rules...

Sol

...And by asking questions
to our friend Piney!
Sol

Right, that's how we learned about
HOT and MELT!
Zorro

I remember how surprised I was, seeing them work as a pair! We should refresh ourselves on the details, just in case...

Let’s make sure volume is turned up and everyone can see before going to the next slide.

HOT objects destroy MELT objects when
they touch. The heart is MELT, but the snowbear isn't — so only the heart gets destroyed!

Zorro
Got it, thanks Zorro! After the mountains,
our next stop should be...
Sol

Morel

Ah, next is my hometown – Mush Marsh!

Yep! That’s where we met you, Morel –
and helped you find Enoki!
Sol

We learned a lot during that search! In each problem, we had to figure out what was blocking us from the goal and why.
Zorro

Indeed. By reading the rules
for the objects blocking us, we could better understand how to get past them.
Morel

That was helpful since we had just learned about a new pair of blocks – OPEN and SHUT!
Sol

Yes. Though they are both pairs, we found out that OPEN and SHUT work a bit differently from HOT and MELT.
Morel

It's important to understand that
difference — let's review OPEN and SHUT
once more, shall we?
Morel

Unlike HOT and MELT, when an OPEN object
touches a SHUT object, both objects disappear.
Morel

Right! When HOT and MELT objects touch,
only the MELT objects disappear.
Sol

Okay, once we’re done at Mush Marsh,
the next stop will be...
Sol

The underwater city of Sea Quench!
That’s my time to shine~
Olive

It sure is! I remember I got lost here, but thankfully that led us to meeting Olive!
Sol

Yes...we were a bit panicked at first,
rushing to find Sol...
Morel

And when we had to solve a problem, we all
had different ideas on where to start...

Zorro
Olive

Yup! But Morel and Zorro convinced me
to slow down and try the next step of
problem-solving: planning a solution!

Problem-Solving Steps
2. Plan a solution
- How can I break this problem into smaller steps?
-
What order should I do these steps in?
Olive

We saw from our first attempts that trying things in any random order wasn’t working...

Olive

That’s when we learned to break it down –
we looked at what steps we could take in each section of the problem...

Olive

Then we planned those steps in order! We reached the WIN much faster that way!

Olive

...And that’s how we found our way
back to you, Sol!

That was a huge relief!
Thanks again, everyone.
Sol

Alright, after the ocean,
the next stop is...
Sol

The beach, Crabby Sands! That’s where
we finally caught up to you, Menti.
Sol

Heh, that’s right...even with my little transformation trick, you still found me.
Menti

Actually, seeing you turn into a shrub taught us how to transform objects, so...thanks!
Sol

Sol

Oh yeah! I remember in the first problem, I was so excited that I wrote a transformation right away...
Olive

...But then I realized it was the wrong first step! Whoops!
Olive

But because of that, we learned how important it was to plan our steps in order.
Sol

Plus, I made a mistake later, too...I wrote a transformation rule backwards!
Sol

And that taught us something important about transformations — the first object in the rule always turns into the second object!
Olive

Finally, our last stop will be...
Sol

The town of Willowbrook –
where you officially joined us, Menti!
Sol

Yep. You know, I really thought I’d win
that duel since I already knew how the GO
and SAFE blocks worked...
Menti

But you won so easily! Did you all have
some kind of secret strategy??
Menti

Hmm...it’s not really a secret, but we
learned a lot by reflecting on our solutions after trying them.
Sol

Yes...by reflecting, we figured out why
a plan didn’t work and how we could improve
our next plan.

Problem-Solving Steps
4. Reflect on the solution

3. Try the solution

- Did the plan work? Why or why not?
-
How should I revise my plan if it didn't work?
Morel
Usually, we missed something in
our understanding of the problem – so we
had to go back to step 1!
Zorro

I see...didn’t you ever feel
frustrated, starting over like that?
Menti

Oh, I did for sure! But like we
always say, making mistakes is normal –
it’s how we learn!
Olive

Indeed. Problems usually aren’t solved
on the first try, after all...
Morel

But if we keep trying, we’ll figure it
out eventually! We can go through our
4 steps as many times as we need.
Sol

- Understand the problem
- Plan a solution
- Try the solution
- Reflect on the solution
Problem-Solving Steps
Looks like our bus route is fully
planned out...is everyone ready to go?
Menti

goo!
Enoki

I’ll take that as a yes!
Come on everyone, let’s stop those shrubs!
Sol

Keep Going!

Sol
Whew, that was a journey...but those shrubs
were no match for us!

Y-you’re back already?! Where are my shrubs??
Lopi

S-sorry Headkeeper Lopi...
they were too powerful...
Shrubs

Ugh. Leave my sight at once!
Lopi

EEP! Y-yes, of course!
Shrubs

Sigh...it seems we must
take matters into our own hands.
Lopi

“We”...? Wait, don’t tell me...
Menti

You should know best, Menti – that us Headkeepers always fight as a duo.
Lopi

Lino, come here!
Lopi

So...the time has finally come.
Lino

Uhh, Menti? Who’s this?
Sol

That’s Lino, the other Headkeeper...
oof, I get a bad feeling whenever these
two are together...
Menti

Bwahaha! Good to see you too, Menti...
Lino

And you must be Sol...I’ve heard
much about you and your friends.
Lino

The fact that you traveled here,
against all odds...it’s impressive,
I must admit.
Lino

But if you insist on continuing to our headquarters...that will be the end of
your little adventure.
Lino

Yes, it will be the end...
Sol

Because my friends and I will stop you,
once and for all!
Sol

Interesting...very interesting.
Lino

Well, if a showdown is what you want...
a showdown is what you’ll get.
Lino

Lopi, let’s head back to our HQ
to make preparations.
Lino

And to you, the Rewriters...
we’ll be waiting.
Lino

Geez...those two are really
stuck in their ways, aren’t they?
Olive

Honestly...I’m still a bit
scared to face them.
Zorro

Morel

That’s understandable, Zorro...
it will be our final battle, of sorts.

Yeah...but we’re in this together, right?
Sol

Right! Is there anything we
should do to prepare for this?
Menti

Let's Discuss! (2 mins)
What advice would you give your
fellow Rewriters for the final showdown?
...Thanks everyone.
I feel a little less scared now.
Zorro

I’m glad! Are we ready to go?
Sol

I think so! Here, Sol...
Menti

You can take the bus pass.
Will you lead the way?
Menti

Sure, I...
Sol

...Wait. I didn’t notice it before, but
this bus pass is giving me that feeling...
Sol (Thinking)

Examining the bus pass, Sol hears a warm voice...

Where do you want to go today, Sol?
Somewhere new? You really are adventurous,
my child...the world is yours to explore.
???

...Woah! I thought I had all my memories back,
but I guess that was the last one.
Sol (Thinking)

...I realize who that voice is now. They’ve
been watching over me this whole time.
Sol (Thinking)

You’re smiling, Sol...
did you remember something good?
Menti

Yeah, I did...but I’ll tell you
about it when this is all over!
Sol

Wait, what- hey, Sol??
Menti

Ahaha, I’ve never seen Sol
this excited! Wait for us~
Olive

To the Keepers’ HQ, everyone –
we can do this!!
Sol

Until
next
time...
